For this week, I wanted to give an update about the upcoming blog posts and updates I have planned for this blog.
First, I plan on posting some ARC Reviews, with said ARCs mainly coming from NetGalley (but always feel free to reach out!). If all goes well, the first ARC I will be reviewing will be The Hungry Dark by Michael Coolwood, with the review post coming out the week of October 10th.
Now, when writing an ARC review, I’m not planning on giving it a star count or some other numbered-metric to say how good it is. After all, I know that tastes will vary from reader to reader, and a book that is my cup of tea may not be everyone else’s cup of tea.
So, instead I will focus on analyzing and communicating the general trends in the book. Is it fast-paced or slow-paced? Is the book heavy on worldbuilding or characterization? Are there certain, potentially triggering topics discussed in the book.
Of course, some of my opinions will be there, as that is part of what a review is about, but I’m also not going to call a book terrible just because I prefer books at a different pace or something like that. I don’t think that helps anyone, reader or author.
With the ARC reviews, I also plan to start posting more writing pieces on this blog. Despite this being an author blog, I really haven’t spoken too much about my current works on here, and I want to remediate that, especially with the progress I’ve made on my main project, Ghosts of the Steel Road.
The current goal is to post about one writing piece, whether a short story or novel excerpt, about once a month. I haven’t quite decided how I’m going to determine the kind of story I will post, but trust me when I say there will be a variety of stories posted.
Finally, NaNoWriMo is coming up soon! In November, I’ll have multiple NaNo-themed blog posts, including my plans for this NaNoWriMo (that’s right, I’m actually planning my posts ahead now, guys).
As I go on and get more comfortable with blogging, there may be some general changes to my website and my style of posts, but those are the important updates for now.
See y’all in the next post!
